Lab members take part in their first UNU conversation series

On 17 October 2018, our lab members attended an event at the United Nations University Headquarters in Tokyo. It was a conversation with Ms. Grete Faremo, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). The topic was “Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals: Infrastructure, Investment, and Implementation”. This session mainly covered five areas: 1) roles of UNOPS in promoting strategic partnerships; 2) approaches of implementing projects; 3) innovative experiences of UNOPS in promoting SDGs; 4) opportunities and challenges in achieving SDGs; and 5) question and answer with the audience.
Ms. Faremo started by explaining the position of UNOPS and how UNOPS can utilize its resources and facilitate strategic partnerships to help accelerate the 2030 Agenda. Moreover, she pointed out the annual budget required in achieving the sustainable development goals. At the same time, she mentioned the existence of different trade-offs among different goals by citing some examples. The challenges related to SDGs were illustrated. In the end, audiences asked their questions and finally, all audience and members were invited to enjoy the food and drinks as they exchanged ideas.
